Forums
You must be logged in and have owner or admin powers to manage Forums.
Forums hold the posts that make up a thread. You can have as many forums as you want in your message board.
Adding a Forum
To add a forum to your message board:
- Open the menu.
- Click the Admin Menu tab.
- Click on the Custom link.
- Click on the Edit Forums link.
- Click on the "add forum"
button next to the folder that you want to add the forum to.
Edit Forum Name
To edit your forum's title:
- On the Forum Options screen click on the forum name you wish to edit.
- Type the new forum name into the text box.
- Click outside the text box to save your forum name.
Edit Forum Description
You can add short description about each forum. This helps your users to understand the topics that should be in that forum. It also assists when people are searching for forums with information they are interested in.
To edit your forum's description:
- On the Forum Options screen click on the forum description you wish to edit.
- Type your forum description into the text box.
- Click outside the text box to save your forum description.
Delete a Forum
To delete your forum:
- On the Forum Options screen click click on the "Delete" button to the right of the forum you wish to delete.
- Click ok to confirm the folders deletion.
CAUTION: This will delete the forum and all its contents - that includes all the posts in that forum. Deleting a forum cannot be undone.
Forum Preferences Management
Every forum can have different preferences for who can access the forum, who can read/reply, and who can post topics. The Forum Preferences Management page also allows you to set what features are allowed in the forum. Let's walk through each of these forum preferences areas.
Security Settings
The forum’s security settings determine who can access that particular forum. There are three settings:
- Everyone - Anyone, regardless of whether they are logged in can access the forum. Only logged in Profiles can post. This is the most public and open setting.
- Logged in Only - Only logged in profiles can access the forum. This setting restricts this forum to be viewed only by logged in profiles.
- Approved Profiles Only - The forum can only be accessed by profiles that have been approved by this forum's Administrator. This setting is the most restrictive and is similar to a Membership by Approval setting on a forum.
Preferences
The forum preferences settings allow you to determine who can add new topics, reply to topics and view topics. NOTE: the Owner, all Administrators, and Moderators of the forum can always create, reply, and view posts.
Now let's walk thorough each of the three settings:
Add Topics - These settings determine who can add topics in the forum
- Any - Check this to select all of the items in this list.
- Non Members - Check to allow logged in profiles that are not members of the domain to add a new topic to this forum.
- Member - Check to allow logged in profiles that are a member of this user group to add a new topic to this forum. Each member group that you have created will be listed separately
Reply to Topic - These settings determine who can reply to a topic that has been posted.
- Any - Check this to select all of the items in this list.
- Non Members - Check to allow logged in profiles that are not members of the domain to reply to topics in this forum.
- Member - Check to allow logged in profiles that are a member of this user group to reply to topics in this forum. Each member group that you have created will be listed separately
View - These settings determine who can view the posts in this forum.
- Any - Check this to select all of the items in this list.
- Non Members - Check to allow logged out guests and logged in profiles that are not members of the domain to view topics in this forum.
- Member - Check to allow logged in profiles that are a member of this user group to view topics in this forum. Each member group that you have created will be listed separately
Allowed Activities
These settings determine what additional activities the forum allows. There are four activities that can be managed here:
- Allow Smilies - When this box is checked posters in this forum will be allowed to use smilies in their posts.
- Allow Signatures - When this box is checked posters in this forum will be allowed to use signatures in their posts.
- Allow Post Edits - When this box is checked posters in this forum will be allowed to edit their posts.
- Allow Post Deletes - When this box is checked posters in this forum will be allowed to delete their posts.
